Kairos Prison Ministry

Changing Hearts, Transforming Lives, Impacting the World

This ministry began because Jesus declares: “…I was in prison and you came to see Me.”Matthew 25:36

The mission of Kairos Prison Ministry is to bring Christ's love and forgiveness to all incarcerated individuals, their families and those who work with them, and to assist in the transition of becoming productive citizens.

Kairos- (pronounced “kie-rose”)means God’s Special Time and it operates in 350 prisons in the U. S. and 8 countries.  Kairos Prison Ministry International is a lay-led Christian Ministry which conducts a highly-structured program designed to show Christ’s love to incarcerated persons and their families. Kairos Prison Ministry offers opportunities to serve both inside and outside the prison walls.

Kairos is made up of Christian volunteers who have agreed to be part of a spiritual journey into the prison. The team is made up of persons of the same gender as the incarcerated participants. Most team members have prepared themselves for this journey by participating in a similar version of a Kairos weekend through the United Methodist ministry of Walk to Emmaus and attending training on four Saturdays.

Locally, Kairos offers 4 day weekends inside the Central California Women’s Facility (CCWF) and Valley State Prison for Women (VSPW) and both are near Chowchilla, and the Federal Prison in Atwater for Men.

The 42 carefully selected participants are showered with the healing and transforming love of Christ and many accept God’s call to a life of Christian witness and service to one another during their stay in the institution and beyond.

Women Kairos volunteers go to CCWF over Labor Day and President’s Day weekends, and to VSPW over Columbus Day and Memorial Day Weekends.

Our Church participates in Kairos Ministry through serving as volunteers, and through your prayers, monetary support, posters, letters, as well as providing snacks and beverages for the residents.
